Erie’s WIC Assistance Program Forced To Close Their Doors

A big blow to local low-income mothers, who need help feeding their children.

We’ve learned that the WIC nutrition program for women infants and children in Erie county, is closing its doors effective Tuesday.
They don’t have enough funds to make payroll, because the state treasurer’s delaying payment.
In Erie county there are seven WIC offices, helping feed pregnant and nursing moms and their kids up to age five.
But, the agency doesn’t have the funds to pay its own employees, or cover operating costs.
That will impact over 300 families a day.

WIC’s seven offices throughout Erie county will all close Tuesday.
