A Dingmans Ferry man has been missing for a week.

Shayne Croop, 20, was last seen Aug. 22, walking out the door of his family home in Birchwood Lake Estates, his stepmother Bonnie Umstead said.

He was working as a dishwasher at Hotel Fauchre in Milford and was upset about his job. Before he left the house, he had been researching labor laws.

“He looked at me and walked out the door. I thought he was going for a smoke on the porch or for a walk,” Umstead said.

But he has not been seen since.

Croop had just bought an iPhone for $400 and the family used technology to locate the phone. It was found on the road, about a half mile from the house inside Birchwood Estates.
“He didn’t have anything on him. No wallet, no food, no water. People don’t just disappear like that,” Umstead said.

At first state police did not consider him missing because he is an adult and can take care of himself, but now enough time has passed that state police are considering him missing, she said.
The worried family has reached out to his work and a cousin in Matamoras.
“It’s weird that nobody has seen him. All he does is work, spend time with family and cousin in Matamoras,” Umstead said.

“He is such a good kid. I cried all the way to work yesterday. His dad’s a wreck over this,” Umstead said.

Croop was last seen wearing black basketball shorts, a Bob Marley T-shirt and Air Jordan sneakers.

He is 5 feet 10 inches, with a thin build. He has dark blond dreadlocks, hazel eyes and tattoos on his arms, fingers, chest, ribcage and legs.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bonnie Umstead at 570-618-0758 or Croop’s father, Howard, at 570-618-0829.
